Manipur electricity employees caution to shut down power supply

Imphal: Manipur Electricity Employees’ Union (MEEU) has warned the government to launch power outage if 7th Pay Revised Rules (ROP-2019) is not entertained by Tuesday.

After considering the situation of the pandemic intensive agitation was not initiated. If the state government fails to revise pay intensive agitation including power outages will be launched till the the demand is fulfilled.

General secretary of the employees body T. Shyamnagor Singh told reporters here on Monday that a joint meeting of Manipur Electricity Employees’ Union (MEEU), Power Engineers Services Association, MSPCL (PESA) and MSPDCL officers Association (MOA) was held at the office of MEEU, decided to form a jont action committee (JAC) against the non-implementation of 7th pay (ROP-2019) by the state government.

The JAC will support the strike organised by the MEEU regarding the pay revision.

Shyamnagor said various agreements have been signed with the government regarding the revision of pay. However, the government fails to convert it into action. The employees of the electricity department had given an ultimatum to the government regarding the fulfilling of the demand by July 31 and to initiated strike on August 1. After considering the pandemic and for the public the strike was not launched. Series of agitation will be started from Wednesday if the government fails to fulfil the demand by Tuesday.

On Wednesday the employees will stage sit-in in front of electricity office, Keishampat and the corporate offices of MSPCL and MSPDCL will be locked down during the protest, he said.

On Thursday, as a part of the movement all the pre-paid counters will be closed and will lock down all the division offices. If the demands are not fulfilled by Thursday then from Saturday the employees will undergo cease work strike till the demand is met, he added.

He appealed the public not to blame for the strike as the employees of the department are facing a severe problems with no revision of pay as per the 7th pay recommendation.
