Imphal: Due to rise in active cases in India over the past few days, the country witnessed a surge in active cases to 1,45,634 which is about 1.32% of India’s total positive cases.
Among the active cases in the country, both Kerala and Maharashtra contributed the most with over 74%. The average weekly cases in Kerala in the past 4 weeks have fluctuated between a high of 42,000 to a low of 34,800 while in Maharashtra, the weekly cases have risen from 18,200 to 21,300 during the same period of time. Punjab also witnessed a surge in daily new cases with a rise of weekly cases from 1300 to 1682.
The Centre has advised 5 states/union territories namely Maharashtra, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Chandigarh which have weekly positivity rate more than the national average to improve the overall testing numbers by focusing on increasing the proportion of RT-PCR tests with all the negative rapid antigen test results be mandatorily followed by RT-PCR test. The centre also advised them to refocus on strict and comprehensive surveillance, clinical management in districts reporting higher deaths and regular monitoring of the mutant strains through testing followed by genome sequencing.
According to a report by PIB Delhi, India’s cumulative COVID vaccination coverage has crossed 1.1 crore. As on 8 pm of 18th February, a total of 1,10,85,173 vaccine doses have been administered through 2,30,888 sessions. These include 63,91,544 HCWs (1st dose), 9,60,642 HCWs (2nd dose) and 37,32,987 FLWs (1st dose).
In Manipur, a total of 41,926 vaccine doses have been administered with 40,215 1st doses and 1,711 2nd doses as on 18th February.
