Imphal: Another civilian injured in Ukhrul violence that occurred on Wednesday between two villages over a land dispute died on Thursday morning at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, here on Thursday.
The victim was YR Pamzeijo of Hungpung, Ukhrul.
Two civilians and one state security personnel had died and several others were injured in the Wednesday incident.
Amid the tension a mob looted a total of 21 firearms from Ukhrul police station on Wednesday.
Police sources said, the mob stormed the police station and escaped with eight 9mm pistols, six INSAS rifles, three AK-47 rifles, two 9mm carbines, one SLR, and one Sten gun. The mob also looted 340 INSAS rounds, 250 carbine rounds, 201 rounds of 9mm, 180 rounds of AK-47, and 10 rounds of SLR, totaling 981 rounds.
“I am extremely pained to inform about the unfortunate incident of violence in and around Ukhrul District Headquarters today causing death of 3 persons including 2 civilians and one MR personnel and injuries to many. I join the entire state in expressing deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured persons,” chief minister N. Biren Singh said on Wednesday
During the day, all possible steps has been taken up by the District Administration, District Police of Ukhrul and security forces to control the situation. The administration with the support of local MLAs have also been looking after the injured persons and their families, he added.
“Ex-Gratia and financial assistance as per the extant scheme of the state government for the time being in force will be extended to the families of the deceased and to the persons injured. I have ordered that the Financial assistance for immediate requirements of the affected families be released by the state government. The distribution has already started and will be completed by tomorrow. All injured are being assisted by the government to get proper treatment in Imphal as well as in Ukhrul.”
“I look forward for support from all stakeholders, including general public, public leaders and Civil Society organizations, to the State Government in its endeavors to bring peace and normalcy, as well as to avoid recurrence of such incidents in future.”
“The state government remains committed to resolve any issue with dialogue and mutual understanding, while assuring general public that those found guilty of inciting violence shall not be spared,” the chief minister said.
