Imphal: Manipur Police has arrested three persons including two policemen in connection with firing near G/129 CRPF campus near Old DC Guest House in Churachandpur district.

Police said, on Wednesday at around 2:40 am, some unknown miscreants coming in a white car from Churachandpur College side opened three rounds fire in the air from a running car near G/129 CRPF campus near Old DC Guest House. The G/129 Bn. CRPF main gate sentry immediately retaliated and fired one round from his rifle following which the miscreants fled away. A case under FIR NO.68(4)2025 CCP-PS us 351(2)/3(5) BNS and 25(1-C) Arms Act has been registered for investigation, it added.

The district Police along with security agencies searched multiple CCTV cameras, utilized ground intelligence sources and implemented multiple check-posts. The vehicle involved in the incident was identified and intercepted around 1500hrs on the same day and an occupant namely Mangkholun Haokip was arrested. Subsequently, one 9mm pistol used in the crime was also recovered. “Involvement of two police constables namely Paominthang Haokip and Thonglenkhai was also suspected in the crime and subsequently they were arrested,” said a police press statement released on Friday.

“District Police Churachandpur is tirelessly dedicated in maintaining the law and order in the district. Any instance of gunfire spreads panic among the general population and all such incidents are investigated on priority. The miscreants involved in this firing were apprehended in less than 24 hours by the district police along with 19 Garhwal Rifles, and 58 CRPF.” The district police superintendent advised the general public not to believe in any unverified information and to aid the security forces in ensuring peace. It was also reiterated that proper legal action will be initiated against any person involved in spreading misinformation.
