Imphal: On the occasion of World Environmental Health Day, the Indian Army led an array of environment-focused initiatives and community engagements across Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Imphal East districts and Leimakhong Military Station reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and community welfare.

A tree plantation drive was carried out at Leimakhong Military Station. Saplings of various kinds and medicinal plants were planted to promote the environmental cause.

In Churachandpur District, the Army collaborated with local communities in Chehjang and Changpikot villages for a tree plantation drive and awareness campaign. With 250 saplings planted, the initiative aimed to address key environmental issues such as climate change, deforestation, and pollution.

Additionally, a cleanliness drive at the Relief Camp in Torbung Bangla saw the involvement of the Village Chief of S. Kawtlian village, schoolchildren, and residents in cleaning water tanks and ponds, enhancing the area’s sustainability and hygiene.

In Bishnupur District, the Indian Army organized a lecture-cum-presentation at Moirang Multipurpose High School on the interconnection between environmental health and human well-being. The session covered topics like climate change, pollution, sanitation, anti-plastic initiatives, and waste management, raising awareness about the impact of environmental issues on public health. Outdoor activities were also conducted to foster hands-on learning.

At Changamdabi Public School in Imphal East District, Indian Army celebrated World Environmental Health Day with a drawing competition on the theme “Plant a Tree, Plant a Future.” The event, which saw the participation of 110 students, encouraged creativity and awareness about environmental preservation. Saplings were planted within the school premises to emphasize the importance of increasing the green cover. Prizes were awarded to students for their enthusiastic participation, further inspiring them to become future leaders in environmental sustainability.

Through these diverse activities, the Indian Army has once again demonstrated its proactive approach toward environmental preservation and its dedication to fostering community involvement. By engaging with local populations and promoting awareness, Army continues to contribute to the protection of natural ecosystems and the well-being of future generations.
