Imphal: Manipur Education minister Thounaojam Basantakumar has cautioned organisations or individuals not to use students from schools and colleges for protest and agitations.

Talking to reporters at DIPR office, here, the minister said an unknown notification calling for a students’ conference was doing the rounds on social media since September 16.

According to the notice, the conference will take place at DMU campus on September 18 around 10 am and discuss on the prevailing crisis in Manipur, he said.

Basantakumar questioned the authenticity of the notification as it had no letterhead nor signature of any authority.

DMUSU and six other student bodies have published clarifications denying any links with the gathering, he said.

The minister urged against the gathering and cautioned that strict security measures would be taken in several areas to prevent any untoward incidents.

He said conducting 229 uninterrupted academic classes in the annual calendar was one of the primary objectives of government in the education sector.

“We have completed 153 classes till now. The flash floods, hailstorm and spiralling social issues had stopped so many classes,” he said.

He maintained that further unnecessary disruption could severely impact the flow of the academic session and pose unwanted problems for the students.
