Education & Labour Minister Shri Thokchom Radheshyam as his first known service as a minister inspected 13 government schools ranging from primary to higher secondary level located within Heirok and Yairipok.
He has started fulfilling his promises with the initiation of inspecting government schools as he had promised on the day he was elected to give priority to education and health sector.
Radheshyam interacted with the teachers pertaining to different problems to these schools like infrastructure, toilet, mid-day meal, upgradation, unfair means exercise in exams, low student-teacher ratio etc. and remedial measures.
He found that some shocking revelations of unwanted activity ironic to the running of an institution in two of the schools. A power station was constructed near Yairipok High School with a water supply plot located just beside it that is very risky in terms of the hazardous impacts it will cause on the learning environment of the students. In Phoudem Upper Primary School, some worn-out parts of the school were broken down & an urban primary health centre was built in its place.
Radheshyam stressed on bringing a change by identifying solutions to current problems faced by the schools specially concerning the student-teacher ratio. He further said, “Kasturba Gandhi Bal Vidyalaya is a minority-backward class project to be undertaken with the DC as chairman in which the district selection committee appoints the teachers.”
Education and health sectors are the two most important departments of the State: Education sector grooms the students into pillars of the nation in turn building the society while the later plays an important role by saving human lives, added the minister.
The minister said that today’s inspection is not a fault-finding process but a way to correct past mistakes, supply need-based requirements, set up new Education reforms, take up improvement measures & encourage co-curricular skills apart from imparting merely text-based education.
He promised the teachers at the schools that he will try his best possible manner to find practical solutions to the current issues and seek co-operation of the school authorities to achieve the set target &bring good governance.
The inspected schools were Tentha High School, Tentha Khunjao Junior High School, Lamding High School, Heirok High School, Lupo Manjuri Girls High School, Heirok Hiigher Secondary School, Kangthokchao Upper Primary School, Sekmai Khumbi High School, Shikong Khunou Hijam Khunou Primary School, Inganglokmacha Primary School, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, the Yairipok High School & Phoudem Upper Primary School.
