Security forces make ‘major recovery’ of arms in Manipur

Imphal: Teams of Manipur Police, CAPFs, Army and Assam Rifles recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition, explosives and other war-like stores during an operation in the valley districts of Manipur.

In the intervening night of Friday and Saturday on receipt of specific intelligence regarding presence of large cache of arms and ammunition etc. stashed in different areas of valley districts, simultaneous search operations were launched at different locations in the outskirts of five valley districts by joint teams of Manipur Police, CAPFs, Army/ AR and the following arms/ammunitions/ explosives/ warlike stores were recovered by the joint teams, said Manipur Police in a press note released on Saturday.

The team recovered a total of 328 guns. They were SLR rifle – 151 nos.,  INSAS rifle – 65 nos., Rifles – 73 nos., Carbine gun – 05 nos., MP5 gun – 02 nos., LMG rifle – 12 nos., AK series – 06 nos., Amogh rifle – 02 nos., Mortar – 01 no., Pistols – 06 nos., Barrel – 02 nos., AR 15- – 01 no., Flare gun – 02 nos.

The security forces also recovered magazines (assorted) – 591 nos., 15. SLR rounds – 3534 nos., INSAS rounds – 2186 nos., .303 rounds – 2252 nos., AK rounds – 234 nos., Amogh rounds – 407 nos., 9 mm rounds – 20 nos., grenades – 10 nos., Lathode – 03 nos., detonators – 07 nos. and Para – 03 nos.

“These intelligence-based operations mark a major achievement for the Manipur Police, the security forces, in their continued efforts to restore normalcy, maintain public order, and ensure the safety and security of citizens and their property,” the police statement said.

“The Manipur Police reiterates its commitment to a peaceful and secure Manipur. The public is urged to cooperate with the Police and Security Forces and report any suspicious activities or information related to illegal weapons to the nearest police station or Central Control Room.

Senior police officials are in close coordination with all security stakeholders to ensure that such operations continue in a sustained and focused manner to restore normalcy, maintain public order, and ensure the safety and security of citizens and their properties.”
