Assam Rifles seizes over 4 Kg opium in Manipur

Imphal: Assam Rifles seized 4 Kg opium along the Sita-Tengnoupal road axis on Friday from a vehicle, traveling from Chelep towards Tengnoupal, carrying two males, two females, and one child.

Acting on credible intelligence from its own sources, Assam Rifles personnel intercepted a black Suzuki Fronx (Registration No. MN-06LX5938) along the Sita-Tengnoupal road axis. The vehicle was traveling from Chelep towards Tengnoupal and was found carrying two males, two females, and one child, said Assam Rifles in a statement released on Sunday.

During a detailed search, Assam Rifles recovered five packets containing a total of 4.162 kilograms of opium, along with a weighing machine. Additionally, six mobile phones and two Aadhar cards were seized. The estimated market value of the seized contraband was approximately Rs 20.76 lakh, it said.

The individuals and the recovered items have been handed over to Tengnoupal police station for further investigation and legal proceedings under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, it added.
