Imphal: Manipur Excise department has destroyed liquor worth over Rs 14 lakh at its head quarter complex, Lamphelpat, here on Sunday.

Various brands of excisable articles like Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) including RUM, beer and illicit country liquor which were confiscated has been lying in the malkhana of Excise headquarter, Lamphelpat since March 1.

The liquors were confiscated by 13 different excise stations of excise department.

It is said that the malkhana rooms are congested due to storage of seized articles and making it inconvenience to store newly seized confiscated items.

In view of the fact and circumstances the confiscated liquors including 286.43 litre of IMFL including RUM; 2555.16 litre of beer and 12,356.90 litre of DIC liquor stoked from March 1 to April 30 were destroyed under section 69 of Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991 at the head quarter.

The order for destroying the confiscated liquors was issued on May 9 signed by commissioner of excise, Manipur, Hungyo Worshang.
