Situation tense, but under control: Manipur Police

Imphal: During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was tense with sporadic incidents of firing but under control, said Manipur Police on Friday.

Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts. During the operation arms and explosives were recovered from Kangpokpi, Churachandpur and Imphal East districts, Manipur Police Control Room said.

One SLR with magazine, one 9mm Pistol,  two No. 36 Hand Grenades and ten 7.62 mm rounds were recovered from Koubru Ridge near Boljang of Kangpokpi district on Thursday.

Local Made Pumpi were recovered on the same day from general area of North Changoubung, Kangpokpi.

Three Single barrel guns, one 7.62 country made Rifle, one Tear gas launcher along with one full ammunition box containing 24 rubber bulet (cartridge 38mm Anti-Riot), one AK 47 with one magazine and three live rounds, one 9mm Pistol with four magazine and ten 9mm ammunition on on Thursday from Haijang forest area, Churachandpur district.

On the next day the security forces recovered two SMG Carbines with one empty magazine from Manaingkhol, Imphal East.

The police control room said in order to repel violent mobs vandalizing and arsoning of government properties at Churachandpur on Thursday evening, security forces resorted to use of legal force. During the incident, two persons succumbed to injuries and 14 persons sustained injuries. Two personnel of security forces also were injured in the said incident.

Flag marches were carried out by security forces at Churachandpur town to prevent any untoward incident, it added.
