NEPO ready to assist government in Manipur peace process

Imphal: A team of North East Peoples’ Organisation (NEPO) – Manipur Chapter has expressed governor Anusuiya Uikey their readiness to give their input and in assisting the government in the process to restore peace in Manipur.

Manipur has been on boil since Kuki Narco-terrorism attack began on May 3.

The NEPO team comprised of Prof. W. Nabakumar Singh, Prof. Ch. Priyoranjan Singh, Prof. N. Mohilal Meitei, S. Bhubol and Dr. Kh. Gourashyam.

They met the governor on Wednesday at Raj Bhavan, here.

The team while highlighting their activities involved in harmonious co-existence of different communities in Manipur, appealed the governor to initiate peace process with a sole objective to restore peace and normalcy at the earliest.

They lauded the governor for her constructive activities towards reaching out to both the communities in conflict.

The governor reiterated that most of the people in the state longs for restoration of peace and normalcy at the earliest. For this, sense of hatred towards each community should be removed from both the communities, she said.

Uikey lauded their efforts towards bringing peace and normalcy in the state and informed the continuous efforts from her office to negotiate through dialogue to end the ongoing strife at the earliest.

Director of Indian Institute of Technology (IIIT), Senapati, Manipur, Prof. Krishnan Baskar along with Prof. Sukhi Orean, Former Member, Jharkhand Public Service Commission, Ranchi, Dr. Sarbajit and Mr. Collin called on the governor at Raj Bhavan and they handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to the governor in governor’s relief fund to provide relief and rehabilitation for those affected by the ongoing strife in Manipur since 3rd May.

The director highlighted that the construction of permanent IIIT campus at Kangpokpi has been delayed due to the law and order situation in state. He also informed that the institute is not affected by the ongoing strife.

Chief patron of Rashtriya Sainik Sanstha, Manipur, Lt Gen (Retd.) K. Himalay Singh, along with president, Manipur Branch Shri Satyajit Aribam and four members met the governor at Raj Bhavan and handed over a cheque of Rs 1 Lakh towards governor’s relief fund.
