FIR lodged against 9th AR ‘for giving chance to Kuki militants to escape’

Imphal: Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station of Manipur has lodged an FIR against personnel of 9th Battalion Assam Rifles for allegedly blocking state police personnel while discharging its duty in Bishnupur district.

The incident was occurred on Saturday last at around 6.30 am near Kutub Wali Masjid at Kwakta Ward Number 8, along Pholjang road about 2.8 km northwest.

In the complaint report submitted by a sub-inspector of Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station it is mentioned that at about 6.40 am on Saturday last received an information that on the same day at about 6.30 am teams of state police including teams of district commando, Bishnupur led by superintendent of police, Bishnupur proceeded towards the Pholjang road along Kwakta Ward Number 8.

The teams proceeded the spot as follow up action in connection with an FIR under Arms Act for conducting search operation to trace out the accused Kuki militants that might have been taking shelter at Kwakta Ward number 8 which is located at the adjoining area between Kwakta and Pholjang village. 

The report continued that on reaching the Kutub Wali Masjid the state police teams including district commando, Bishnupur were stopped and blocked their way by the personnel of 9th Assam Riffles by keeping and parking their ‘Casspir vehicle’ in the middle of the Kwakta Pholjang road and obstructed in discharging their law bound duty.

“As such arrogant act of the personnel of 9th Assam Rifles giving a chance to the accused Kuki militants to escape freely to somewhere, a safe zone for them,” it said.

Under the complaint a suo-mutto case has been registered at Phougakchao police station for investigation.

Earlier on the same day three Meitei villagers including father and son who were sleeping in their homes were killed by suspected Kuki Militants in the wee hour at Kwakta Lamkhai Ward Number 8.

After the incident heavy gunfight was occurred in the area between Kuki militants and state forces along with Meitei village defending volunteers. 

On Sunday Kuki militants attacked had continued their attack at the state police force who were stationed near Qutub Wali Masjid. Due to the gunfight between Kuki militants and state forces including village defence force, Muslims (Meitei Pangal) were unable to offer Namaz.

In a recent order issued by Manipur Police department, CRPF jawans has replaced 9th AR along Bishnnupur to Kangvai Road from Monday until further order.
