Demonstrators demand to trace out two missing students, urges PM

Imphal: Demanding to trace out whereabouts of Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit who have been missing since July 6, people took up demonstration.

Locals of Takyel Kolom Leikai have been pressing the government and authority concerned to trace out the missing students.

No clues have been received by state police despite the CCTV footage where they were seen riding towards Nambol in Bishnupur district on July 6 morning.

Linthoingambi and Hemanjit and have been recently passed out from Tamphasana Higher Secondary School and Kindergarten School respectively.

A protestor, Ngasepam Bimola told reporters that the students have been missing and after a complaint was registered by the family members, last mobile location of Hemanjit was found at Lamdan, Churachandpur district which is a Kuki dominated area.

She said the state government should trace out the two students that have been missing despite the area is a vulnerable spot due to the present turmoil. The state government should deploy additional forces and trace out the two missing students.

Central government should take necessary steps to bring back normalcy in Manipur and many students could become victims of the present clash”, Bimola appealed.

The rally started at the community hall of Takyel Kolom Leikai with placards embedded “book Kuki terrorist”, “why govt is silent”, “govt should trace out two missing students”, “book the culprits” among others.

Manipur state police blocked the rally at Tera Bazaar and six representatives were allowed to submit memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor Singh, chief minister N. Biren Singh and governor Anusuiya Uikey.
