Arms, ammunitions recovered in Manipur, houses set on fire

Imphal: Seven arms and 81 ammunitions were recovered from Imphal East, Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal districts of Manipur by security forces on Monday.

Search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, Churachandpur, Tengnoupal , Kangpokpi and Bishnupur districts.

During the last 24 hours, the situation in the State was tense with sporadic incidents of firing, arson and congregation of protestors, Manipur Police Control Room said on Monday.

In the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, unknown miscreants set on fire four abandoned houses, one kuccha hut and one community Hall at Langol, Imphal West. District police and fire service rushed to the spot and controlled the fire. Six persons have been arrested in connection with the arson, the police control room said.

A total of 129 Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 1369 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.

Movement of 171 vehicles along NH-37 with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, the police control room said.

The police department also appeals to public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
