8 abandoned houses gutted after 3 fall prey of Kuki militants

Imphal: In the aftermath of killing of three members of a family by the Kuki militants in the early morning of Saturday at Kwakta in Bishnupur district, outraged mob arsoned at least 8 houses at Imphal East and west district on Saturday evening.

In Imphal East district a mob vandalized two abandon houses at New Checkon. When they ignited the house, state police including other central force rushed to the spot. To control the mob state police blank fired several rounds of bullets, tear gas shells and mock bombs to disperse the mob.

The mob retaliated with catapults towards the combined forces. However the mob was dispersed.

Manipur Fire Service team rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. 

During thr incident one concrete house was totally damaged while another similar house was partially damaged.

Another mob arsoned at least five abandoned houses at Langol area at around 5.30 pm. A combined team of state and central forces including Rapid Action Force rushed to the spot to control the mob. Several rounds of live bullets, tear gas shells and mock bombs were triggered to disperse the irate mob.

During the incident one Takhellambam Thoi, 45, son of T Ingotomba of Lamphel Yaipha Leikai received bullet injury on his left thigh. He was reportedly injured from bullets shot by Kuki militants who were hiding in the houses.

The injured was rushed to RIMS hospital for treatment.

A team Manipur Fire Service along with SP, Imphal West rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. However, most of the houses were damaged.
