Imphal: Chandel Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under aegis of IGAR (South) foiled smuggling attempt of Korean cigarettes in Machi sub-division on Monday.
The troops deployed along Indo-Myanmar border routes intercepted one vehicle carrying illegal cigarettes after midnight. On checking, 12490 packets of Korean cigarettes worth Rs 37.5 lakh were recovered without any legal documents along with two smugglers.
The recovered cigarettes alongwith apprehended smugglers and vehicles were handed over to custom office, Pallel for further legal action, the Assam Rifles said.
