Heroine No. 4 found concealed in vehicle fuel tank, 3 arrested

Imphal: Manipur cops apprehended three persons who were ferrying contraband items suspected to be Heroin No. 4 concealed in the fuel tank of the vehicle they were travelling from Chandel side towards Imphal on Monday evening.

The drug was detected by a team of Kakching Police in the vehicle (Bolero) which was trying to escape from the police team who were frisking and checking at Chandel Lamkhai in order to detect movement of anti-social element and transportation of illegal items at around 7 pm.

While conducting frisking and checking, the police team noticed the Bolero vehicle, black in colour, bearing registration No.MN04A-7448, coming from Chandel side and proceeding towards Imphal side. When the cops gave a signal to stop the vehicle for checking, it tried to escape from the checking point on seeing the commando personnel by speeding up, taking advantage of traffic and darkness.

The cops managed to stop the vehicle at Kakching Lamkhai and detained the vehicle and occupants by ‘maintaining SOP of Covid-19’ for verification.

The frisking and checking was conducted under the overall supervision of superintendent of Police Kakching, Victoria Yengkhom.

The vehicle and its occupants were searched in presence of a civil witness and gazetted police officer Ksh. Manihar Singh, MPS, additional superintendent of police (OPS) who was at the spot.

When searched the vehicle with the help of mechanic and noticed the fuel tank of the vehicle modified one and well partitioned. Then, the fuel tank was checked and detected 53 soap cases (39 soap case green in colour, 11 soap case maroon red in colour and three soap cases blue in colour) suspected to be Heroin No.4 which were kept concealed in the partitioned fuel tank of the vehicle. The contraband items/drugs from the possession of Thongkhopao Baite, 24, son of Holkholat Baite of Chalson Tengnoupal, T. Bongmun at 8: 10 pm were seized Thongkhopao was arrested at spot at 8:20 pm by observing all formalities, Victoria said in a press release on Tuesday.

Both the associates of Thongkhopao were also arrested from the spot at 8:30 pm and 8:40 pm respectively by observing all formalities. The associates were M. Thangkhokai Haokip, 30, son of M. Thaglhun Haokip of T. Daampi Village, Moreh, Tengnoupal and Seiminlal Lhungdim, 27, son of Khamkholet Lhungdim of Chalson Tengnoupal, Moreh.

The police recovered two mobile phones from the possession of Thongkhopao, two mobile phones from the possession of Thangkhokai Haokip and recovered one mobile phone from the possession of Seiminlal.

On weighing the detected contraband items suspected to be Heroin No.4 was found to be approximately 714 grams excluding the weight of the soap cases, the press release said.

Holkholat disclosed the police that he along with his associates had taken those drugs from one Bebem Haokip, 27, of Chawanphai village, Ward No.6 Moreh, Tengnoupal and it has to be handed to one person at Khongsai Vang, Imphal, whose particulars were not mentioned by Thongkhopao.

The arrested persons along with seized items were handed to Kakching Police station and a regular case has been registered for further investigation, the senior police officer said.
