Imphal: “Widows and Orphan Resource Development Trust is rendering good, humanitarian service by undertaking activities for the welfare of the widows in different ways. I appreciate the Trust for playing an exemplary role by helping the marginalised sections of the society like the widows without taking any financial help or fund from any other sources,” labour and employment minister Th. Satyabrata Singh said.
The minister expressed that he is in a position to provide assistance in the form of skill training to the widows and remaining weaker sections of the society of Manipur.
He was speaking at a gifts presentation programme to widows of his Assembly Constituency at Youth Club Brahmapur Ground, Imphal East on Thursday. The function was organised by Brahmapur Aribam Leikai Sub-Committee on the theme “Let Them Alive.” It was sponsored by Widows and Orphan Resource Development Trust, Ghari Awang Leikai.
Satyabrata said he learned that there is also a policy to engage the widows in different activities according to their specific talents and skills by providing financial help without taking any interest later on. We can engage them in small groups of 5, 7 or 10 numbers as working as a whole team will be a difficult task.
Widows can work in groups at their own homes in activities like pickle-making, preparing incense sticks etc. and generate income, he added.
He appealed the gathering to let him participate and shoulder responsibility if they need any monetary support or any other help. He hoped that the Trust will continue doing good work by helping weaker sections of the society and take Manipur forward towards inclusive development.
