Imphal: Two Indian army Helicopters with Bami Buckets were in service and a team of NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) of Guwahati has reached Dzuko range to douse a massive wildfire that has been raging for the past few days engulfing a large area of Dzuko valley.
Dzuko valley, a popular trekking destination and a tourist spot, is located at the border of Nagaland and Manipur. It is known for its natural environment, seasonal flowers, and flora and fauna. It is situated at an altitude of 2452 meter above the sea level.
Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh twits “The @NDRFHQ has now deployed 60 personnel at the wildfire site at Dzuko valley. Also 2 helicopters equipped with Bambi bucket have been deployed to fight the wildfire. Thanks to the men of action Shri. @AmitShah Ji and Shri. @DrJitendraSingh Ji for their prompt intervention.”
Biren said a team of NDRF of Guwahati numbering 59 led by assistant commandant Sanjiv kumar has reached at Mao police station (in Senapati district). Accommodation is arranged at JNV, Mao. In addition 35 personnel from SDRF and some from the state fire serve are at the spot, he added.
The fire reportedly broke out in the Dzuko range in Nagaland on Tuesday and spread towards Manipur side on Thursday.
With the fire spreading towards Manipur’s Mount Iso, the highest peak in the state, Biren along with chief secretary Rajesh Kumar, DGP LM Khaute and Senapati deputy commissioner Th. Kirankumar conducted an aerial survey to take stock of the situation.
The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained, the time when the blaze started was not clear.
Biren said the officials and villagers could not enter the burning areas as the scale of fire is too large with strong winds. There is no proper equipment. It may be difficult to control by manpower.
