Imphal: A group of bus drivers who volunteered in bringing back stranded Manipur denizens have been sent for home quarantine, president of Transporters and Driver Council (TDC), H Ranjit said on Tuesday.

Ranjit was speaking to reporters at his MG Avenue office, here.
He said transporting in of stranded people began on May 11. Since then about 25,000 stranded people were transported in the state. During the transportation over 171 bus drivers including co-drivers were utilized.
In the first batch more than 100 bus drivers including co-drivers were tested negative and for the second batch about 71 bus drivers and its co-drivers were tested negative for Covid-19, he added.
On the last day of the quarantine period of the second batch the inmates were departed after they chanting a slogan on their success. Ranjit said the said bus drivers and co-driver inmates were sent to their home and advised to continue home quarantine.
He appealed the drivers to follow the protocols of WHO strictly during home quarantine.
Ranjit also appealed to the people not to carry social discrimination against those bus drivers. With the initiatives from the drivers the stranded people were able to reach their home safely, he added.
Saying that after Jiribam police station and some areas of the district has been announced containment zone, transport drivers has been facing problems, he appealed the transport drivers to follow the protocols.
Ranjit said the transport drivers were screen again at Inter State Bus Terminus located near Khuman Lampak.
He urged the state medical department to increase the screening windows to avoid waiting for long queue.
