Imphal: To support government initiatives of Manipur government to prevent spread of Covid-19 6th Indian Reserved Battalion (IRB) distributed face mask, produced by its unit tailor, with hand sanitizer to public on Thursday.
The distribution of mask and sanitizer was conducted under the command of commanding officer (CO), Mutum Kumarjit.
Kumarjit told reporters, here, that to support government’s initiatives while preventing Covid-19, the battalion distributed the mask and hand sanitizer from the expenses of the unit.
He said under the instruction of chief minister, N. Biren Singh each government employees has to register themselves at ‘Aarogya Setu’ mobile application and personnel of the battalion have registered at ‘Aarogya Setu’.
At present the country have a total of 49,391 positive cases of Covid-19, out of which 14,183 people have recovered and 1694 people have died due to infection of the virus. In Manipur two persons were found positive on Covid-19 but they have been recovered after they were given treatment by state medical experts. Though the state is free from Covid-19, people need to be cautious as many migrants might enter the state through border town, he said.
The IRB battalion distributed masks and hand sanitizers at Pangei market, Imphal East and the personnel also distributed them to the commuters who came without face mask.
Kumarjit said for the battalion preventive measures have been taking since the outbreak of the virus. Every personnel or visitors are allowed to enter the battalion campus after washing their hands with soap which is kept at the main gate. They are scanned at maingate, he added.
The battalion has to be cautious as the personnel staying in the battalion are in barrack system. If one among the personnel is infected then the whole battalion could be infected easily, he added.
He said the thermal equipment was donated to the battalion by one of the personnel of the battalion.
The battalion has a quarantine room set up by the unit inside the campus so that any suspected personnel of Coronavirus infection could get the facility to quarantine, Kumarjit said.
