Imphal: Manipur Police on Saturday arrested one individual for transporting Peacock feather shafts to Myanmar ‘without proper documentation.’
The individual was identified as Md. Sharifuddin, 24, of Moreh Ward No. 5, Muslim Nagar Laibuk Leikai under Moreh police station, Tengnoupal, a border district. He was apprehended from Pallel police station gate area in Kakching district.
From his possession, four plastic sacks containing 18 bundles each of Peacock feather shafts, in total 72,000 (seventy-two thousand) Peacock feather shafts, and weighing about 142 kg approximately was recovered. “The estimated cost of the seized peacock feather is approximately Rs 37,00,000 in the international market,” said Manipur Police. One four-wheeler vehicle was also seized.
