Imphal: While Manipur faces crisis rising out drug issues, officers of Anti-Smuggling unit of Customs Division, lmphal, nabbed one smuggler with Brown Sugar worth Rs 3.5 crore, on Tuesday in Imphal East.
The drug smuggler was apprehended along with 700 grams (in 60 soap cases) of Brown Sugar while trying to board a passenger vehicle (TATA Winger) of Dimapur bound at Koirengci Bazar area, Imphal East, Manipur.
The person was identified as one Mohamad Sabir Ali, 24, son of Mohamad Shahejaman, resident of Kwakta Ward no 8, Bishnupur district.
The contraband drug was carried by the accused in his travel backpack, said Thilu Lanamai, superintendent (A/S) of Customs Division, Imphal.
The recovered drug has been seized and the accused Mohamad Sabir Ali has been arrested under the relevant Section of the NDPS Act, 1985, he added.
The value of the seized contraband drug was estimated at Rs 3,50,00,000 ( three crore fifty lakh), according to the superintendent.
“Further investigation to nab the other offender(s) of the case is going on,” he said.
