Imphal: In line with the observance of Rashtriya Poshan Maah, Central Bureau of Communication, Chandel field office, in collaboration with the ICDS Cell, Chandel district organised a one-day Integrated Communication Outreach programme on ‘Poshan Maah’ on Tuesday at Sinadam village in Chandel district.
The programme was organised on the theme, “Tribal Focused Nutrition Sensitization (Nutrition-Rich India, Educated India, Empowered India).
The month of September is designated as National Nutrition Month in India, also known as Rashtriya POSHAN Maah or the National Nutrition Mission. The main goal of this initiative is to combat undernutrition among children under six years old, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. Poshan Abhiyan is now in its sixth year, having been launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2018.
The awareness programme witnessed large participation from women and children of the village and surrounding areas. Stalls exhibiting energy rich foods, protective foods, body building foods and medicinal foods were also displayed during the programme for participants.
Chief Guest of the function, Mothel Saka, SDC HQ, Chandel district said observing this programme in the district is very significant and urged the participants to make nutrition rich Chandel district. He also stated everyone in the district should plant more nutritious foods in the district.
Resource person Ts. Hringnary Anal, supervisor, Chandel block, spoke on the benefits of locally available, low-cost nutrient rich foods and urged young mother and adolescent girls to give priorities in consuming such foods. She also spoke on energy rich foods, protective foods, body building foods and medicinal foods.
Functional president Pipa Tungdar Maring, CDPO, Khengjoy Block, Chandel district spoke on the significance of observing Poshan Maah. She also stressed on why nutrition is a must for children under six years old, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
During the programme Martha Saka, supervisor, Chandel block, Dearson Tontang, senior consultant, ADP Cell, Chandel district and Sh. Kohrin, assistant chief of Sinadam illage.
Mathew Sk Bengam, FPA, CBC, FO Chandel said organising such awareness programmes by Central Bureau of Communication will continue for the benefit of the society, state and the nation.
A spot quiz competition and a public rally to spread awareness of the significance of Poshan Maah was also carried out in the adjoining areas.
