Imphal: Manipur Home department has appealed to all sections of general public including public functionaries to restrain themselves from making hate speech and provocative remarks against any community in the violence ridden situation of the state.
The Home department in a notification said, in view of the prevailing law and order situation in the state and effective maintenance of the same, it appeals to all sections of general public including public functionaries to restrain themselves from making expression targeted against anyone through any medium, or by speech which constitutes ‘hate speech’ or any species thereof; or spreading of wrong information, rumours; or making of provocative remarks directed at any particular community which is likely to create misunderstanding and aggravate the prevailing law and order crisis in the state.
Manipur has been restless since May 3, the day Kuki agitators burned down houses of Meitei community in Churachandpur district over scheduled tribe issue.
The crisis has reached its momentum with gunfights between the two communities. Some termed the issues as Narco-Terrorism or otherwise as Chin-Kuki-Mizo aggression.
Since May 3 the internet connection in the state has been restricted, allowing only those authorised by the administration, and curfew has been imposed till date.
