Manipur crisis: 28 persons arrested, 7 bunkers destroyed

Imphal: Imphal East district police have arrested nine persons including five women in connection with the incident in which one woman was found dead at Keibi Heikakmapal Maning Ching on Saturday. 

Two arms, five ammunitions and one car were seized in connection with the case. 

Nineteen persons have been apprehended by Imphal West district police in connection with the torching of three empty trucks at Awang Sekmai Mayai Leikai Lampak, Imphal West on the same day. They were produced before the Duty Magistrate Imphal West on Sunday and seventeen were remanded to police custody for four days and two were referred to Juvenile Justice Board. “Raids are continuing to arrest other accused persons,” Manipur Police Control Room said.

“Situation is tense in some places with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of unruly mob during the last 24 hours.”

Security forces conducted search operations in the vulnerable and fringe areas of both valley and hill districts. A total of seven bunkers were destroyed in the operations.

During the last 24 hours, intermittent firing by armed miscreants were reported at few places. Police and central forces launched operation in Phaileng area, Kangpokpi district and two arms and nine ammunitions were recovered and the miscreants were repelled. 

In the search operation conducted by District Police Thoubal on Saturday in Heirok area, 12 twelve magazines and 25 ammunitions were recovered. 

A total of 124 checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and police had detained 586 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state, the police control room said.
