Lions Club extends hand to flood affected people in Imphal East

Imphal: Lions Club of Imphal Valley and its youth wing, Lions Club of Imphal Valley NextGen, have launched a massive humanitarian relief campaign for families affected by the recent flash floods across Imphal East district.

The initiative, conducted under Lions Clubs International District 322D, delivered essential ration kits to more than 300 households on Monday and Tuesday.

The third phase, scheduled for Wednesday, will extend the relief to an additional 100 families, taking the total to 400 households.

Each family received a relief package consisting of a 26 kg bag of Basmati rice, 5 kg of masoor dal, 5 litres of mustard oil, 2 kg of salt, soya protein, pepper, coriander, and other food items intended to support a household for about a month.

The first phase of distribution was carried out on Monday at Soibam Leikai, Wangkhei Khunou (at Citizens’ Club), Khurai Heikromakhong, and Heingang Makha Leikai. On Tuesday, relief was extended to residents of Nongmeibung Pung Makhong (at Eastern Students’ Club) and Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal.

The relief drive was flagged off at 10 am on Monday by Lion Th. Kesho Singh, district governor of Lions Clubs International District 322D, from the premises of the Gurudwara in Thangal Bazar.

He was joined by GMT district ooordinator Lion Prof. N. Romi Singh, club presidents Lion L. Joykumar Sharma and Lion Saket Bagda, and Mandip Singh, secretary of the Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee, along with other Lions members.

This project also marked the closing service activity of the Lionistic year 2024–25 and the beginning of the new year 2025–26 with the global Lions theme “Relieving the Hunger” as its guiding focus.

“This is one of the biggest service initiatives we’ve undertaken in our 11 years of community engagement,” said a club representative. “As we enter a new Lionistic year, we renew our commitment to stand with those in need.”
