“German Road” in Manipur raises ‘serious concern’ to Rongmei Naga

Imphal: The ongoing German Road (Tiger Road) construction project connecting Churachandpur and Kangpokpi via Jaojangtek, Kotlen and Kangchup foothill by Kuki-Zo has raised a serious concern to the Rongmei Naga Community as the road lays within the land of Naga villages.

The strategically laid road, with almost 7-8 km, is running well within the village jurisdiction of Ichurn Kabui, Natok Kabui and Charoi Pandongba, has undoubtedly pose an imminent threat to the safety of the Naga community, particularly, the Rongmei Tribe, said Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation, Ntayphay Luangrian on Friday.

It is an undeniable fact that the construction of German Road by Kuki-Zo under the initiative of the Kuki Militant is nothing but a strategic line drawn for their advantages while jeopardizing the security of the other communities. This highly provocative activities will possibly de-stabilize the peaceful inter communal co-existence in the region, it added.

It said the proposed installation of SoO camp for Kuki-Zo militant and pre planned settlement project of non-manipuri speaking people, obviously, immigrants from Myanmar, in the region is yet another matter of serious concern. Such systematic arrangement made by the Kuki is in collusion with the Govt Security Agencies might consciously or sub-consciously develop a situation most regrettable.

Therefore, with utmost concern for peace and harmonious inter communal co-existence in the region and for better future, the organisation, ‘in the interest of the general public, earnestly appealed to all parties concerned to kindly refrain from all these activities with immediate effect, and give peace a chance arid avoid yet another death row among communities that has experience the most bitter part of the history’.

“All these recent development in the region without the least respect for the other community while evidently positioning itself for best advantages in times of conflict is an act of war not justified in any civilized society. The Rongmel Naga as a dignified tribes with a rich historical heritage shall not remain a mute spectator to such humiliation and shall remain firm in our commitment for justice,” the youth organisation said.
