Katho Katamnao Long, Tangkhul Naga Valley Students’ Association condemns Kuki mob attack on Ukhrul-bound vehicle

Imphal: The Katho Katamnao Long and Tangkhul Naga Valley Students’ Association, ‘in the strongest terms’, condemned the ‘unwarranted act of Kuki mob attack on the Ukhrul-bound Winger and the assault on its driver and passengers at Mongkot Chepu village’ on Thursday, which injured a lady passenger and the Winger driver.

The utterly condemnable behavior of the Mongkot Chepu Village chief who threatened the passengers while under the influence of alcohol, is highly uncalled for, the two bodies said.

“This is not the first instance where the war-mongering Kuki community residing along the stretch of Ukhrul to Imphal road, has engaged in such unwarranted actions against this road commuters. Despite our repeated efforts to foster peace in the region, these Kukis have consistently proven that they do not genuinely seek peace and continue to provoke conflict.”

“Ever since the May 3, 2023 incident, our efforts to live in peace and cordial harmony have been overlooked and alien seen as weakness and cowardice. To prevent further escalation and conflicts, the apex body of the Tungkhuls, Tangkhul Naga Long, has been issuing press releases and ultinutunns since 2023, urging that no one disturbs the passengers.”

The Tangkhul Naga Long numerous meetings and understanding with Kuki Village chiefs seem to have overlooked and discarded by the Kuki villages residing along the stretch of Ukhrul to Imphal road (NH 202), the two bodies said.

“In light of the incident, and the continued defiant attitudes despite repeated warnings, as well as the frequent harassment and disturbance meted out to the travelers, we hereby serve an ultimatum that the miscreants involved in this incident be produced within 24 hours from the day this ultimatum is served. Failure to comply with this ultimatum will result in serious and unbearable consequences. We will also completely block the movement of Kakis along the stretch of NH-202, Implial-Ukhnd road, and no Kaki movement will be allowed in Ukhrul district,” they said.

“Further actions will he taken unless our ultimatum is met.”
