Imphal: Members and supporters of Imagi Meira, a women’s body, stormed at Manipur Legislative Assembly and the state Bharatiya Janata Party office here on Tuesday, demanding the formation of a popular government of Manipur and end the years-long unrest in the state.
The Convenor of the women’s body, Th Sujata, told reporters that the women’s body submitted an application to Secretary Manipur Legislative Assembly seeking information on the annual budget for an MLA.
“The MLAs, including the 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs, are all enjoying the benefits given to them by the Manipur Legislative Assembly, including their monthly salary, despite the state being under suspended animation,” said Sujata.
“She said the representatives of the women’s body were asked to collect the information from the Speaker, but he told them to collect the same from the Secretary of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. Due to their delaying tactics, no such reports were able to be obtained from the authority,” she added.
Sujata said, “The state has double engine government. If the 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs are not able to come to Imphal, then the remaining 44 MLAs, excluding 5 Congress MLAs, can claim to form a new popular government.”
“We came here to the BJP office to meet the state party president (Sarda Devi), but unable to meet her with different excuses, we do not want their game for leadership power, we just want to bring a popular government to end the ongoing crisis,” said Sujata.
