Bunkers destroyed, arms recovered, militants arrested during security forces operations in Manipur

Imphal: Security forces destroyed three bunkers during an operation in Tengnoupal district of Manipur and recovered eight IEDs with other arms and ammunition on Wednesday.

War like stores were also recovered in another search operation in the Imphal East district.

Eight IEDs, eight local made hand grenades, 25 electric detonators, five No. 8 detonators, 40 nos. of 5.56 mm INSAS rounds, 60 nos. of 7.62 mm AK rounds and one Motorola set with charger were recovered in the general area of Saivom village under Tengnoupal police station, Tengnoupal. One .303 Rifle, one Sniper Rifle, one 9 mm SMG Carbine with magazine, one .32 pistol, two INSAS Rifle magazines, one lathode shell, three No. 36 hand grenades without detonator, 10 nos. of .303 live ammunition, five nos. of 7.62 mm live ammunition, 10 nos. of 5.56×30 mm live ammunition, seven nos. of 5.56 mm live ammunition, eight 9 mm live ammunition, two nos. of .32 live ammunition, five .303 blank cartridge, four detonators, three Anti-Riot shells, two tube launching, two helmets, four BP plates and one rubber bullet were recovered from Heingangkhong and its surrounding area under Heingang police station, Imphal East.

Security forces, on Wednesday, arrested one active member of UPPK, namely, Chingakham Priyobarta Meitei alias Lepa, 31, of Langmeidong Bazar, Kakching district, from Wangkhei Andro Parking near Wal United Youth Club under Porompat police station, Imphal East district.

On the same day, the security forces also arrested one active member of KCP(MFL), namely, Naorem Punshiba Meitei alias Baby, 20, of Wangoo Lamkhai, Kakching district, from Heirok Part-III Kabo Leikai under Heirok police station, Thoubal district. From his possession, one .32 pistol along with a magazine and three live rounds were recovered.

Security forces arrested one person, namely, Waikhom Rohit Singh alias Phurupngakpa, 33, of Thoubal Pakhangkhong Leirak, Thoubal district, who was an accused in an NIA case.

Police arrested one Sinthangamba Konsham Mangang, 25, of Heirok Part III, Kabo Leikai, Thoubal. “He is a serial offender and has involvement in multiple cases of mob related incidents across Manipur, including an attack on SP Thoubal Office, DC Thoubal Office, a case in Singjamei-PS, Imphal West and a mob incident in Keishampat, Imphal West,” said police.
