Imphal: Celebration the Earth Day, a 12-kilometer ‘Cyclothon’ was organised on Tuesday within Imphal city by the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Manipur.
The event began at the western gate of Kangla, drawing around 300 participants, including officials and citizens.
Principal secretary Arun Kumar Sinha highlighted the critical importance of environmental conservation for future generations. He emphasized the need for initiatives like afforestation, spring water conservation, eco-tourism, and the development of eco-friendly villages, calling them essential steps in protecting our planet.
He urged everyone to unite in preserving both the valley and hills, echoing this year’s Earth Day theme, “Our Power, Our Planet.”
Dr. T. Brajakumar Singh, director of the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, reminded participants of their shared responsibility to safeguard Earth, our only home.
He encouraged sustainable living and urged people to move away from fossil fuel dependency. Promoting bicycles and electric vehicles, he noted, could play a significant role in cutting greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change.
The event saw the participation of environmentalists, media personnel, departmental staff, and other notable personalities, all coming together to mark the day with a strong message of action and awareness.
