Imphal: State Level launching of Social Awareness and Action to Neutralise Pneumonia Successfully (SAANS) and National Newborn Week (NNW) was held today. The occasion was jointly organised by State Health Society and Directorate of Health Services Manipur at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong, Imphal.

​Speaking at the occasion as Chief Guest, Health and IPR Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh expressed the significance of observing SAANS and NNW. He said that Pneumonia is a common disease of the children during the cold season. He stressed that preventive measures at the grassroot level is quite necessary. Sincere efforts of the health officials and concerned staffs are needed. Minister also urged to draw the attention of those stakeholders. Such program should be made a significant one, he emphasized.

​ Dr. Ranjan maintained that awareness about the preventive care of the newborns should be given to the general public at different levels. Practicing doctors and experts need to be sincere and serious. Support staffs are also required to be trained and well equipped with child care knowledge; Minister added.

​ Director, Health Services Manipur, Dr. Chambo Gonmei, State Mission Director, NHM Manipur, Dr. M Dinesh Singh, Director, Family Welfare, Manipur, Dr. N. Hemantakumar and Additional Director, Dr. N. Bino graced the occasion as President and Guests of Honour respectively. Officials of the Health Department and others also attended the occasion.​
