Imphal: Self-styled town commander of a proscribed Kuki outfit United Kuki National Army (UKNA) was found shot to death near the Anglo-Kuki War Centenary gate, close to Leisang village in Churachandpur district, in the early hours of Tuesday.
The deceased was Seikhohao, belonged to Kaprang village, Churachandpur district.
Police said the incident occurred around 12:15 am, and he was found shot dead approximately 1.5 km from Torbung Bungalow, Churachandpur, Manipur.
The district police recovered the body and deposited it at the Churachandpur Medical College morgue.
The police are yet to ascertain who was behind the crime.
The Kuki underground outfit was directly involved in the attack on petroleum oil tankers and gas bullet tankers along NH-37 on April 16, near Kaimai in Tamenglong district, under the jurisdiction of Tousem police station.
