Imphal: “Aronba Khujin Thourang,” a docu-drama on the historical events of the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891, was launched at Sana Konung complex, here, on Wednesday.
A new generation with a sense of nationalism is required to solve many issues of Manipur, said Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba (titular king of Manipur) at the launching programme.
The book was penned by Munish Ningthoujam and published by Phunga Heritage in association with Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Meghalaya.
The author is the president of Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Meghalaya, and the general director, North East Region, of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, ministry of External Affairs.
Leishemba said Manipur has been facing various issues and difficult problems. These issues and problems could be addressed only if a new generation with a sense of nationalism is nurtured.
The youth and people should know the history of unsung heroes who fought for Manipur against the British, beyond the contributions of Bir Tikendrajit, Thangal General, Paona Brajabasi, and others, the titular king said.
The history of Manipur needs to be made aware to the people in traditional forms of media or drama, he added.
Munish said the book is based on the history of the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891. He began the research work for the book in 2015 and took three and a half years to complete it.
The book was first published in two scripts: Bengali and Meitei Mayek. The book will be republished in English in the next three months, he said.
Professor Biona Kharrubon, and convenor of the Manipur Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, Professor Rajen Toijamba were present at the function.
