Imphal: AICC leader Rahul Gandhi has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Manipur and protect its people, who have been suffering due to the Meitei-Kuki crisis that erupted on May 3 last year.
Rahul was here to pave a solution to the over 14 months long conflict that is linked with Narco-terrorism and external aggression.
He made his visit while Kuki MLAs demand a separate administration for the Kuki-Zo community.
Rahul Gandhi talking to reporters at Congress Bhawan, here, expressed disappointment at the lack of progress in restoring normalcy in Manipur.
“It is a tragedy to see Manipur split into two, with many displaced, many dead, and many houses burnt to ashes. I have not seen such a situation anywhere else in India,” Rahul said.
He said he had expressed disappointment to governor Anusuiya Uikey at the situation.
Rahul met the governor after he visited relief camps in Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts.
He said the governor was assured of Congress party’s commitment to extend every possible support in restoring peace in the state.
Violence and hatred would not bring any solution, but peace and brotherhood would restore normalcy in Manipur, the leader told reporters.
He reiterated that the Congress party is ready to extend every possible support to restore normalcy.
