Imphal: Editor of a Manipuri daily “Naharolgi Thoudang” has faced another threat from unknown armed miscreants on Tuesday early morning.
The editor’s residence, at Kontha Khabam Lai Haraobam, Imphal East, was rattled with bullets by the armed assailants at the main gate.
Editor Khoirom Loyalakpa was at his press office, here, when his residence was under attack. He was informed about the incident from his family. When he, along with some of his staff, reached his residence, they found at least six spots of bullet hit at his residential gate.
No casualties were reported during the incident.
Earlier, the editor faced threat from unknown armed men and was provided security guards by the state government. However, the security guards were withdrawn on June 5.
Loyalakpa said the incident was reported to the concerned police station. A team of police reached the residence along with bomb experts and investigated the matter.
The Manipur Forensic team also visited the spot and conducted an investigation. During the investigation, 5-6 empty cases of AK ammunition were recovered.
Loyalakpa said, a few days earlier, when he was returning home from his office, some unknown miscreants followed him. Instead of going home, he had to return to his office. Since then, he has been staying at his office, he added.
He said he has been staying at his home since the past two-three days.
Earlier, the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) had lodged a complaint with the Superintendent of Police, Imphal West, after unknown miscreants followed him while he was returning home.
Loyalakpa said the unknown miscreants followed him on the day his security guards were withdrawn.
No individuals or groups have claimed responsibility of the Tuesday attack, till the filing of this report.
All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union and Editors Guild Manipur conducted an emergency meeting at Manipur Press Club, here. The journalists bodies strongly condemned the firing incident.
