Imphal: Manipur MP from the Congress, Alfred Kanngam Arthur questioned on the negligence, by Government of India, of Manipur which is a state of India.
Arthur briefed the Lok Sabha floor on the negligence of Manipur that has been in turmoil for the past about 15 months and facing highest inflation rate in the nation.
He complained in the House of disregarding Manipur people with no inclusion in the current Bugget in such a situation.
The MP asked the Speaker to give him 15 minutes to address the grievances of the people who has been suffering for 15 months without proper income and food.
He told the Speaker that she must have been sent by his electorates for the welfare of her state as well as the nation like as he was represented by the people of Manipur for the same.
He said he was in the Parliament not to listen to fictitious version of Modi government stating that he was there for the cause of people’s welfare.
The MP spoke in Hindi and English to raise the voice of the state.
He lambasted the ‘absolute silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’ over the crisis in Manipur that erupted on May 3, last year.
Since the National Democratic Alliance came to power in 2014, many Union leaders and ministers have frequently visited the state, almost every week. However, since the crisis erupted in Manipur, these visits have stopped. Being the Prime Minister of India and an open-hearted person, he should understand the situation, Alfred said.
How can Modi-led government govern the vast country when it cannot restore peace in the small state of Manipur having just 30 lakh population for the last 15 months? Arthur asked.
The Lok Sabha MP informed the House that Manipur has a very low per capita income but a high inflation rate. The state has faced two unprecedented floods, affecting many people. It is facing the crisis with many at relief camps. However, Manipur was not included in the 2024-25 union budget.
“We have shed bloods for the nation, have contributed for the country. We are not betrayers; it’s our right to demand justice. I, as a representative of Manipur, do not come here to listen to speeches but to raise the voice of my people,” said Alfred.
People of Manipur have been listening to the PM’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ for 10 years. But after the Manipur crisis erupted, not a single word about it has been uttered in ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ he alleged.
He appreciated opposition leaders for raising the voice of the Manipur crisis and keeping the issue alive.
Arthur informed that he made two suggestions to the governor of Manipur Anusuiya Uikey to help restore peace in Manipur. He suggested for the Naga, one of the communities that has remained neutral in the crisis to launch talks with both Kuki and Meitei leaders.
“Secondly, I suggested replacing the present chief minister of Manipur with one of the remaining over 40 MLAs of the ruling party.” “Why is the union government have difficulty to replace the CM of Manipur as part of restoring peace as claimed?” Alfred questioned.
Drawing the attention of Union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman through the Parliamentary floor, Alfred said Manipur has many tourist hotspots, and many youths from the Northeast are engaged in the tourism sector across the country. He appealed through the Parliamentary floor to include Manipur and North East in the map of India’s tourism.
