Imphal: Manipur government has been taking up every possible step to protect the people of the state from the present crisis, Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh on Friday.
Manipur has been reeling in the crisis of Meitei-Kuki conflict since May last year.
Biren reiterated the government’s stand towards economic revival and making the state self-reliant.
Stating that everyone had been facing hardship for the last few months due to the current unprecedented crisis, the chief minister stressed the need for everyone to also focus on day-to-day necessary activities for our livelihood and to revive the economy which had been badly affected.
The chief minister was addressing at the launching function of ‘Skilling and Livelihood Programme’ at the City Convention Centre, here.
Stressing the need to make up the losses incurred in the last few months due to the crisis, the chief minister directed government officials and banks officials to deal with the public needs in a constructive manner.
Mentioning the topics to be deliberated on during the technical session of the programme, he informed on the rising number of fish farmers in the state, producing more quantity of fish to meet the demand. He also expressed hopefulness that the import of fish in the state had been significantly reduced.
The chief minister spoke on various schemes introduced by the government for the welfare of the people. He said the government initiatives have been taken up so that the public spend less on children’s education and can save a part of their earnings for other purposes to improve their livelihood.
The state government had started a process for finding out students who cannot get admitted to college due to financial problems, being the bread earner of the family and to take measures to get them enrolled in colleges, he added.
Water Resources minister Awangbow Newmai also expressed the need for coordinated efforts of all sections of people in restoring peace and normalcy in the state.
The launching programme was followed with a technical session. In the technical session resource persons deliberated on certain topics including “Opportunities and benefits of animal husbandry as a means of reviving livelihood activities of the youths”, “Scope of fish farming as a means of income generation for the youths”, “Methods of composting and vermicomposting”, “Mushroom cultivation”, “Means of income generation for the unemployed youths” and “Empowering youths through food processing in the state”.
The skilling and development programme has been taken up to empower the youths who are committed to rebuild their lives and achieve a dignified livelihood through productive participation in rebuilding our economy, which has been badly affected by the unprecedented crisis in the state.
Agriculture minister Thongam Biswajit, CAF and PD minister L. Susindro Meitei, Social Welfare minister Heikham Dingo, MLAs, senior government officials, officials of Horticulture and Soil Conservation department and trainees also attended the programme.
