Imphal: Manipur governor Anusuiya Uikey and chief minister N. Biren Singh extend greetings on the occasion of Id-Ul-Zuha that falls on Monday.

In her greetings the governor said Id-UI-Zuha meaning ‘festival of sacrifice’ signifies the spirit of sacrifice rising above the narrow barriers of one’s ego and self-interest for the good of all. The festival promotes tolerance, harmony and goodwill amongst different communities.

“On this sacred occasion, let us forget our differences and usher in an era of peace and harmony in Manipur.”

Id-Ul-Zuha commemorates the supreme sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim for the sake of mankind and his devotion to Allah, Biren said.

The day signifies the spirit of sacrifice rising above the narrow barriers of one’s ego and self-interest for the good of all and holds special relevance today as the state is facing divisive forces bent upon destroying the state’s integrity and our age-old fabric of harmonious living, he added.

“May the festival of Id-ul-Zuha help in uniting the people of the state and in promoting the spirit of common brotherhood for a peaceful Manipur,” Biren said.
