Imphal: One gold smuggler was nabbed by the officers of Anti-Smuggling Unit and Air Intelligence Unit, Customs Division, Imphal along with CISF personnel stationed at International Imphal Airport, Imphal, on Sunday.
The person was detained along with one packet containing gold paste. The accused was taken to Customs Division, Imphal for legal procedures.
At the Customs office, the officers on thorough checking recovered another two oval shaped packets of suspected gold of foreign origin in paste form, each wrapped with rubber sheath concealed in the rectum of the accused, a press statement released by office of the deputy commissioner, Customs Division, Imphal on Monday.
The recovered gold pastes total weighing 972.28 grams were seized at the Customs Divisional Office, Imphal.
The gold pastes value Rs 70,31,601. Further investigation to nab the other offender(s) of the case is going on, it added.
The officers of Anti-Smuggling Unit, Customs Division, Imphal had also recovered three oval shaped gold pastes which was concealed in a car at Singjamei, here on Friday.
