Congress worker’s residence attacked ahead of Lok Sabha poll in Manipur

Imphal: Will election glory go by threats? The question has arised in the minds of people as Congress workers and its candidate Prof. Bimol Akoijam face threats from miscreants ahead of the Lok Sabha poll for Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.

Polling for the inner Constituency falls on Friday.

Three rounds were fired at the residence of former president of Khurai Block Congress Committee located at Kangla Sangomshang, Imphal East on Thursday.

Condemning the incident and firing in congested residential areas, Coordinating Committee, Kangla Sangomshang staged a sit-in at the community hall of Kangla Sangomshang.

It is reported that some unknown armed miscreants at around 9.30 pm of Wednesday suspected to be coming in a SUV four wheeler broke inside the residential main gate of former president of Khurai Block Congress Committee, Kumabam Sanajaoba, 70, of Kangla Sangomshang, Imphal East under the jurisdiction of Lamlai police station.

The armed miscreants reportedly call Sanajaoba to come out of his house. When Sanajaoba did not come out from his residence, the armed miscreants fired three rounds in the air at his courtyard and fled immediately.

The protestors decried the incident. Co-convenor of the committee, Thounaojam Bijayaluxmi said the locals strongly condemn the firing incident in residential areas. Threatening public with arms cannot solve any problem.

She appealed not to repeat such incident.

With the coming of the 18th Lok Sabha poll for both Inner and Outer parliamentary Constituencies of Manipur, concerned DCs has issued an order to submit arms as preventive measures.

Besides, huge number of arms, ammunitions and other explosives are still at large and yet to be recovered that were snatched by public as to defend themselves after state and central forces failed to protect the villagers in connection with the narco-terrorism crisis.
