Biren condemns attack on fuel tankers, vows stringent action

Imphal : Manipur chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh has strongly condemned Tuesday’s ambush on fuel tankers along NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam road).

“Stringent action will be taken against the culprits,” Biren told reporters on the sidelines of manifesto launching function of BJP at Thambal Shanglen in Imphal West on Wednesday.

“The government will not allow such barbaric acts in any part of the state.”

The ambush injured a truck driver.

A combing operation has been launched to apprehend those responsible for the attack, Biren said.

“Terrorist is terrorist. The state and the Centre will deal with them,” he added.

Regarding the party manifesto, Biren said it is not merely a political document, as BJP keeps promises.

Highlighting the promises to deliver peace and remove AFSPA in a phased manner, Biren said it reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concern for the humanity of the Northeast.

BJP is committed to restoring peace in Manipur, without compromising the core issues such as territorial integrity and safety of the indigenous population, Biren said and appealed to the people of Manipur to cast their valuable vote for the BJP, “the only party that can save Manipur”.

United Kuki National Army (UKNA) has claimed responsibility for the attack on the fuel tankers in a release.

It said it was their first offensive operation against the supply of essential commodities and other weaponry in aid of the Meetei Community.
