Threats to FCI drivers, labours, staff condemned

Imphal: Consumer affairs Food and Public distribution (CAF and PD) minister L. Susindro condemned bomb threat to staffs, drivers and labourers of FCI godowns and appealed not to disturb them in delivering ration to the beneficiaries under National Food Security Act.

FCI godown, Sangaiprou, Imphal West has been temporary shut down since few months back due to the threat.

Speaking to reporters at FCI godown, Sangaiprou, Susindro said a video went viral on social media stating that lifting of rations from the godown has started for distribution at Saikul and Noney district.

He clarified that the video went viral due to some misunderstanding.

Permission has already been granted for lifting of rations from the godown to distribute in valley districts including Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching. But, due to fear of unknown miscreants, drivers and labourers were not able to come at the godown to lift ration from the godown, he added.

As contractors are not responsible for unable to lift ration from the godown, he urged the respective MLAs of different Assembly constituencies that they can lift their respective allocated ration from the godown by their own drivers and labourers.

He said after considering the issues faced by the public on unable to get ration he took such steps. Despite the government has been taking various security measures at different FCI godown, the government cannot provide adequate security for each driver and labours.

If necessary the government will set up open stalls at godowns in order to get the needs of the people, he added.
