Two persons killed, arms recovered

Imphal: Two individuals were killed in a firing incident between armed miscreants at bordering area of Kangpokpi and Imphal West district on Tuesday, said Manipur Police Control Room.

During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was tense with sporadic incident of firing but under control, the police control room said.

It said search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the

fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts.

During the operation one 9mm pistol with magazine, one .303 rifle with magazine, one improvised 5.56 mm rifle with magazine, one 12 bore gun, one improvise mortar (Pumpi), Anti riots ammunitions (2 tear smoke shell, one tear gas grenade, 2 cartridge (38mm), two 9mm CMG magazine and one pair of jungle boot were recovered from Churachandpur district, it added.

It said an enquiry is in process to check the veracity of the allegations as published in “The

Print” on January 21. A case has been registered to know the cause of the fire. Till now there is no evidence to suggest that the arson was carried out by any of the security forces. There were armed miscreants present in the areas including where arson took place and security forces engaged with them. The unfortunate incident of fire on January 17 was doused with the help of fire services department, security forces and locals of the area, it added.
