Imphal: Three persons were killed and injured five others when unidentified gunmen clad in camouflage opened fired at Lilong area in Bishnupur district of Manipur on Monday evening.
Full curfew has been reimposed in Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching, Imphal West and Imphal East districts.
“We do not take this tragic incident lightly. Manipur police will swift into action to nab the culprits. We will take stringent actions against the culprits as per law,” chief minister N. Biren Singh said in a video message.
He appealed to the valley people, particularly from Lilong, to refrain from resorting to violence and to cooperate with the government.
The incident took place amid the violence that has been staged in the state since May 3, the day Meitei-Kuki conflict erupted.
The New Year Day was not celebrated in the valley in wake of the deaths and woes faced by the people in the conflict.
