Kangla cordoned off to stop Arambai Tengol

Imphal: Combined teams of state and central forces cordoned off Kangla on Tuesday as preventive measures after Arambai Tengol summoned all the ministers and MLAs belonging to the valley district for a meeting scheduled on Wednesday.

For the first time in a decade, the medium machine gun was seen pointing toward the public at the western gate of the Kanga, Imphal. It has been reported that the security arrangement was made in connection with a special duty in Imphal West district with effect from 11 am Tuesday.

As per security arrangement, it is mentioned that the Arambai Tengol summoned all the ministers and MLAs belonging to the valley district at Kangla at 10 am on Wednesday.

As the Arambai Tengol are planning to enter Kangla with arms before the programme, the security officials reported that the tight security arrangement was made immediately to deny and stop the entry of armed Arambai Tengol members at Kangla. A huge number of combined security forces are seen at three gates of Kangla including the northern gate, the southern gate and the western gate.

Meanwhile, a special team of the Union Home Ministry, led by AK Mishra, interlocutor of Naga Peace Talk, has held a meeting with the representatives of Arambai Tenggol at the residence of Rajya Sabha MP, Leishemba Sanajaoba, also the King of Manipur. Mishra was accompanied by Mandeed Singh Tuli (joint director SIB, New Delhi) and Rajesh Kumble (joint director SIB Imphal).

Kangla will also be the main venue for 75th Republic Day celebration.

Meanwhile, an investiture ceremony will be organising to facilitate the winners of GGM and GSM and winners of unit citation at Darbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, here at 2 pm on Wednesday. The approved units for award of unit citations by governor of Manipur Anusuiya Uikey are 9 Assam Rifles, 21 Assam Rifles, 35 Assam Rifles, 36 Assam Rifles and 37 Assam Rifles.
