Manipur crisis: 3 detained in connection with 2 missing boys, weapons recovered

Imphal: In connection with the missing report of two boys on Sunday, joint security forces launched search operation in Khengjang and K Lhangnom villages of Kangpokpi district on Monday and detained three individuals for further interrogation and verification in connection with the incident.

Seach operation continues, said Manipur Police Control Room on Monday.

It said search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal-East, Thoubal, Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal districts.

The security forces recovered one arm (SMG Carbine), 63 ammunitions, one explosive (hand Granade with one ring), 19 magazines (SMG Carbine -03, INSAS LMG-16), six Anti-riot shells, one Tube Launching, four INSAS Rifle Gas Cylinder caps, seven 7.62 SLR ammunition charger clip and three empty ammunition carrier boxes from Khundrakpam Mayai Leikai, Heingang Police station, Imphal East District.

Seven Kg. (approx.) explosive iron pellets, five grams (approx.) of gun powder, six GI pipe (2 big & 4 small size), one bullet proof jacket, two Pumpi bomb shells and three two-Wheeler vehicles were recovered from T.Yangnom village, Moreh Police station, Tengnoupal district.

During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was tense but under control with sporadic incidents of congregation of protestors, the police control room said.

Police detained 1616 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.

The police control room appeals to public to return ‘the looted arms, ammunition and explosives’ to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
