Bomb found at saloon

Imphal: An bomb was found placed reportedly of extortion was found at a saloon located at the New Checkon Bazar Board, Imphal East at on Tuesday dusk.

The shop is owned and run by one Babu Thakur, 48, son of Bajanathi Thakur of Samastipur, Bihar presently staying at New Checkon.

It is reported that one unknown person wearing black dress came and placed a box inside the shop and left.

The shop owner reported the incident to the Porompat Police station. At around 6.45 pm a team of bomb disposal squad reached the spot and after performing the formalities the bomb was diffused safely.

Police blocked New Checkon road for around 15 minutes as precautionary measures.

Babu who is also secretary of Manipur Barber Association reported that around 10 days back one underground organisation made extortion demand from the association.

He said there are around 80 shops registered under the association.

The bomb is a high explosive grenade but no detonator was found while diffusing the bomb, police said.
